wish-upon-a-wedding1
You never know what curveball life is going to throw you.  Recently I had a challenging day and on the verge of a complete meltdown when a friend told me, “It is how you handle the situation that defines you as a person, pull up your boots and get to it”.  I stopped and thought for a sec and reality smacked me in the face… I should be grateful for my stressful & challenging  day for there are many people with terminal illnesses that would give anything to switch places with me.  In retrospect, my situation was minor compared to the challenges and curveballs that many others have been thrown.   EVERYONE should be aware of this amazing organization, Wish Upon a Wedding, in which I was recently asked {completely flattered & honored} to be the President of the Carolinas Chapter.  Please pull up YOUR boots and seek out your local chapter and help make make a wedding wish come true!

Fun Facts: 15 things you may or may not know about me

  1. I’m not a fan of country music and prefer everything but that music genre.  You’ll find Hip Hop stations programmed in my car but I love cowboy boots.
  2. I am a small town girl that loves the big city.  I crave New Orleans and NYC and would move to either in a hot second.
  3. I always have to be doing something and I become bored easily…some people may refer this to adult attention deficit disorder but I’ve never been diagnosed.
  4. I dislike getting “ready”  I am a 20-30 minute turn-key girl, shower, hair & makeup and I’m out the door.  If I have to be somewhere at 7, bet a 100 bucks I’m jumping in the shower at 6:15 pm.
  5. I need adventure and excitement in life.  Laying on the beach all day is not an ideal situation for me even with a good book.  Spontaneous travel is popular in my lifestyle as well as a carry on bag when flying…I’m a last minute and light packer!
  6. I have a sweet tooth that I inherited from my grandfather and father.  A bite of something sweet is a must have after every meal.  Which leads to #7…
  7. My ideal breakfast is a cupcake & coffee.   Period. I’ll pass on the eggs & bacon.
  8. After I workout at the gym I go to Dunkin’ Donuts for a small coffee in a medium cup (Med. Cup lids are way better than the small small cup lids) and 2 sour cream munchkins.  You know you go somewhere too much when they see you walk in and your order is ready by the time you get to the counter.  I know that is so contradictory…gym then dunkin’ donuts…life’s too short.
  9. My first car was a 1985 Diesel Suburban.  My dad told me if I could learn to drive that, I could drive anything.  It ended up being the party bus and it would not be a rare night out that we would cram 15 people in there.  However, it is hard to sneak out when you are driving a diesel…the whole neighborhood wakes up when you start the car therefore; I think my parents had an alternative motive.
  10. Raw Chicken freaks me out. I don’t want to see it or touch it and I don’t cook it- same with raw eggs.  However, I’m not a vegetarian.
  11. Anything before 7:30 am is too early.
  12. I’m the opposite of a great housewife and tend to label myself as “organized chaos”.  I have sacrificed several pairs of shoes to pay for a cleaning lady.  Cleaning & Laundry are definitely not a strong attribute of mine-but I love to cook! (*result is a messy kitchen:)
  13. Days of Our Lives & The Today Show is the only thing I watch religiously on TV.
  14. Carpe Diem.  That’s what I try to live by even though in the wedding world I know where and what I’ll be doing 12 months from now.
  15. I’m a Virgo…that should pretty much sum it all up.

p.s we had to ship this carpet over on a boat from Honolulu and let’s just say the closest Lowe’s was an hour way….Huge {{hugs}} to Debbie & her hubs with Pacific Event Group

Flashback: CW Network Filming

Last year at this time we were full force with what I will call “Operation Hitched or Ditched” with the CW network at Ballantyne Resort.  My partner in crime for these episodes was my dear friend Grace Beason with Grace Leisure Events.  The pictures are some behind the scenes shots that we took during our oh so dramatic fun filled month of filming.

Behind the Scenes: Meet Macy

Viva La Vida: Costa Rica Part 2

2009_costa_rica_02612009_costa_rica_0251-this-one2009_costa_rica_0257-chandelier

Sometimes the best plan is having no plan at all!  The pictures you are viewing are the outcome of our “no plan tabletop design challenge”!  I arrived in Costa Rica with a laptop, carry on suitcase, flip- flops, sundresses, and a M.I.A passport (that’s a different story for different day).  So….you maybe asking how I ended up with the design I did when I didn’t bring any of this with us?? It’s all about observing what is around you…and this is how it went down.  When our group of gals (aka planner from across the country) went into “town” to visit the local florist, I saw this huge piece of driftwood sitting in the corner of the shop’s floor.  From there, I had the idea to hang it from the hut that was beside our villa.  Look closely and you’ll see that the floral chandelier hanging above the table is the piece of driftwood.  The “chargers” are some huge leaves that I found on property, as well as the orange “straws” in our mango daiquiri that our infamous pool boy made us on an hourly basis.  The benches were around the pool, the table was what we ate dinner from every night, the napkins we borrowed from the kitchen staff’s linen closet and the peacock feathers were in the villa in a vase.  A huge hug & air kiss goes out to my wing man on this challenge…Lisa “Ceci” Johnson Founder/Creative Director of Ceci New York who also is responsible for the too hot for words invitation sets and belly bands.  Of course you wouldn’t be viewing this without the amazingly, talented Corbin Gurkin!
